In honor of the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference taking place in Boston this weekend, here are our favorites from among the research papers presented:

Live by the Three, Die by the Three: A game theoretic look at how NBA teams adjust their 3-point attempts when winning and losing.

The Value of Flexibility in Baseball Roster Construction: An analysis of the value provided to MLB teams by players able to play multiple positions and fill in for injured teammates.

Acceleration in the NBA: Philip Maymin utilizes SportVu optical tracking data to determine which points on a basketball court see the most player acceleration.

To Crash or Not To Crash: Using data from the 2011-12 NBA season, the authors examine the pros and cons of crashing the boards for offensive rebounds or getting back on defense in transition.
